Ribbed Far-Away Baby Socks

Here is the pattern for Ribbed Far-Away Baby Socks as it made its public debut on Thursday, January 17, 2008 on the afghans for Afghans Knit- and Crochet-Along blog at http://afghansforafghanskal.blogspot.com/2008/01/ribbed-far-away-baby-socks.html

The instep stitches continue the ribbing from the leg for an extra bit of stretch. The short-row heel eliminates picking up stitches, though I found it the hardest part of the pattern to write up!

Feel free to use this pattern for personal use or for charity. I reserve all rights, etc., etc.

Knit across 12 stitches of 1st needle. If there is a gap between the heel stitches and the instep stitches, it helps to pick up a stitch to knit together with the first and last instep stitches.

(K1, P1) 6 times (instep).

Cont in pattern, keeping instep stitches in K1, P1 rib and sole stitches in stockinette stitch, until work measures 2” from back of heel.

Toe Shaping:

Rnd 1: (K4, K2tog) 4 times (20 sts rem)
Rnd 2: K

Rnd 4: (K3, K2tog) 4 times (16 sts rem)
Rnd 5: K
Rnd 6: (K2, K2tog) 4 times (12 sts rem)
Rnd 7: K
Rnd 8: (K1, K2tog) 4 times (8 sts rem)
